Korean Skincare for dry skin: what actually works

The best skincare products for dry skin pair a gentle cleanser with a moisturizer that draws water in and helps hold it there, used morning and evening. Dry skin usually comes from a barrier running short of lipids, made worse by hot water, harsh cleansers and dry winter air. Look for humectants like glycerin and hyaluronic acid alongside lipids like ceramides. Dr.G is clinic-born, created by Seoul dermatologist Dr. Gun-Young Ahn, and its range keeps dry skin comfortable from cleansing to sun care.

Main causes of dry skin
Dry skin happens when the skin barrier runs short of the lipids that hold water in. Those lipids naturally decline from the late 30s [3], and everyday habits strip them faster, especially hot water, harsh foaming cleansers and dry indoor air in winter.
Your cleanser matters more than you might think. In a clinical trial on dry skin, simply switching to a mild cleanser improved dryness, and adding a moisturizer improved it significantly more [1]. Exfoliating too often makes things worse too, especially in a week when your skin is already flaking. It also helps to know whether your skin is dry or dehydrated.
Dry skin is short of lipids and feels rough and tight all day. Dehydrated skin is short of water, feels tight mostly after cleansing, and can happen to any skin type, oily included. Most dry skin needs a bit of both, water and the lipids to keep it in.

The key ingredients for hydrating dry skin
The key ingredients for hydrating dry skin work in pairs. Humectants draw water into the skin, lipids help hold it there, and the best formulas combine the two, with soothing actives added when dry skin also turns red or stings. These are the names to look for on the label.
- Glycerin
- Hyaluronic acid
- Panthenol
- Ceramides
- Squalane
- Cica
Glycerin, hyaluronic acid and panthenol are humectants, so they bring water in.
Ceramides replace the lipids your barrier is losing, and squalane adds a light seal on top.
Cica helps when dry skin is also reactive, since its triterpenes are associated with a calmer skin response and support for the skin barrier [2].
The pairing works in practice. In a two-week trial with 52 adults with moderate to severe dry skin, a mild cleanser plus a glycerin-rich moisturizer used twice a day improved dryness scores significantly more than the cleanser alone, and more than 80% said their skin felt more moisturized [1].
