10 Cica Complex, explained: the Korean clinic-born soothing formula

The 10 Cica Complex is Dr.G's answer to skin that flushes, heats up and stings: ten complementary soothing actives built around cica, the soothing plant at the center of Korean sensitive-skin care. It lives in R.E.D Blemish Clear Soothing Cream, the Soothe step of the Dr.G routine, a cooling gel-cream you press in morning and evening. Cica calms visible redness, brings comfort back to reactive skin and supports the skin barrier, so your skin can rebuild its tolerance day after day. Like every Dr.G formula, it is clinic-born, rooted in the Seoul dermatology clinic where the brand began.
01.
Why skin runs red and reactive
You know the feeling. A hot shower, a cold wind or a new product, and your cheeks flush, heat up and sting. The cause is a barrier running short of tolerance: water escapes faster, the nerve endings that register heat and sting have less protection, and even plain friction sets them off.
A healthy skin barrier is quiet work. It holds water in and keeps irritants out, and you only notice it when it slips. Dry air, hot water, over-exfoliation, friction and pollution can all wear it down, and then flushing, heat and stinging show up at things other skin ignores.
Redness is your skin telling you that tolerance is low. Tolerance can be rebuilt, though, by calming the reaction and keeping water in, day after day, and that is the job of the soothing family of actives. Cica is the one Korean skincare built that family around.

What cica is and its skin benefits
Cica is the shorthand for centella asiatica, the soothing plant at the center of Korean sensitive-skin care. It calms visible redness [1], makes reactive skin feel more comfortable and supports the skin barrier, which is why it earned its place in so many Korean formulas.
Labels can make cica look like three different ingredients, because the same active appears under the plant name on one product and under its individual molecules on another. The names to know are the triterpenes madecassoside, asiaticoside and asiatic acid, the plant's signature compounds.
Three benefits matter most.
- It calms visible redness, because its triterpene compounds are associated with a calmer skin response [1].
- It makes reactive skin feel better, in line with the tolerance gains reported in people with sensitive skin [2].
- It supports the skin barrier that keeps water in and irritants out, which is how tolerance is rebuilt over weeks of daily use [1][2].
Visible redness and tolerance move over weeks of consistent use, morning and evening, which is also why people give up on cica too early. Korea made cica its signature soothing active because sensitive skin is a mass-market concern in Korea, with pollution as one of its drivers, according to K-beauty author Charlotte Cho in Allure, and that pushed calming actives to the heart of Korean formulation.
Korean skincare built its reputation on tolerance, barrier and consistency, and treats calm skin as the precondition for everything else.

The Dr.G 10 Cica Complex for sensitive skin
The 10 Cica Complex is the Dr.G solution for skin that runs hot, red and reactive. It brings ten complementary soothing actives together around cica, inside R.E.D Blemish Clear Soothing Cream, a translucent cooling gel-cream made for twice-daily use on skin that needs calm.
Dr.G is clinic-born. It grew out of the Gowoonsesang clinic that Dr. Gun-Young Ahn, a practicing dermatologist, opened in Seoul in 1998, and the brand launched in 2003. Today the Gowoonsesang network runs 16 clinics that have treated more than one million patients. "Our clinics are living labs," as Dr.G puts it. Dr.G is also the No.1 skincare brand in Korea***.
For Dr. Ahn, sensitive skin is weakened rather than fragile. It is something to rebuild day after day, and the 10 Cica Complex follows that thinking.
Open the jar and R.E.D Blemish Clear Soothing Cream breaks into water on contact, then settles without leaving a residue. Dr.G formulated it around the 10 Cica Complex to calm visible redness and rebuild tolerance.
The cream is chosen by 1 in 2 Koreans**, ranks as the No.1 Facial Cream Brand in Korea**** and has been awarded in the Olive Young Awards cream category for six consecutive years, 2019 to 2024.

How to use cica in your routine
Cica fits into the Soothe step of the Dr.G three-step routine, between Prepare and Protect. It asks very little of you, a steady habit, a gentle hand and a little patience, because visible redness and tolerance follow over weeks of daily use.
- When: morning and evening, after cleansing (after exfoliation on the days you exfoliate) and before sun protection.
- How: press the cream in with the fingertips rather than rubbing, because friction is itself an irritant on reactive skin.
- Frequency: twice a day, every day, with no cycling and no rest days. Consistency is where the results come from.
On a hot day, do what some Korean users do. Chill the jar and apply a thicker layer for ten minutes, like a cooling mask.
