Best Korean Skincare Brands: Why Dr.G Ranks #1 in Korea

The best Korean skincare brands are the ones Korean households keep buying, and Dr.G is the No.1 skincare brand in Korea*. The brand was founded by Dr. Gun-Young Ahn, a dermatologist practicing in Seoul, and grew out of his Gowoonsesang clinic, so every formula starts with what he sees on patients. Dr.G has been ranked year after year at the Olive Young Awards, run by Korea's largest beauty retailer, and four heroes carry the range, one for each concern: redness, daily sun protection, firmness and rough texture.

Why Korea is the hardest skincare market
Korea is the hardest skincare market to win because its shoppers know what they are buying. They read ingredient lists, compare grades on Hwahae, and drop a product the moment it stops earning its place.
A brand that holds its rank in Korea has been judged by the most informed shoppers in beauty, season after season.
Three habits explain it.
- Skincare is a daily discipline in Korea, learned young and kept for life, so a product has to prove itself every single morning rather than once in a campaign.
- Dermatology clinics are part of ordinary life in Seoul, which is why Korean shoppers talk about the skin barrier the way other markets talk about hydration.
- Korean labs dose potent actives for comfort as much as for speed, because a fast result that leaves skin uncomfortable does not get bought twice (Dr. Claire Chang, board-certified dermatologist, UnionDerm NYC, in Allure).
02.
Four ranking standards for best Korean skincare brands
Four things separate a Korean skincare brand with a real record from one with a big launch budget, and all four can be checked before you buy.
How many Korean households buy the brand. How it performs at Olive Young. How it holds up when editors outside Korea test it. How clearly it names what goes in the bottle.
- Household penetration. How many Korean households actually buy the brand, counted by an independent panel instead of announced in a press release. It is the hardest number to inflate.
- The Olive Young record. Olive Young is Korea's biggest beauty retailer, with stores on almost every busy street and the app most Koreans shop from, so its yearly Awards are decided by what people really keep rebuying. Winning a category several years running means a long rebuy streak, not a good launch week.
- Testing outside Korea. US beauty editors try these products next to formulas from every other market, with dermatologists advising them, so a product that wins a slot there has been judged on more than its reputation at home (Allure, Marie Claire).
- Formula transparency. Named actives, what each one is there for, and clinically proven results you can read before you buy.

Dr.G, the No.1 skincare brand in Korea
Dr.G is the No.1 skincare brand in Korea*, counted on how many Korean households buy it, and the brand is clinic-born. A dermatologist, Dr. Gun-Young Ahn, created it inside his own Seoul practice, and its four heroes cover the concerns Korean shoppers buy for: redness, daily sun protection, firmness and rough texture.
The brand grew out of the Gowoonsesang clinic opened in Seoul in 1998 by Dr. Gun-Young Ahn, a practicing dermatologist, and launched in 2003. The Gowoonsesang network now runs 16 clinics that have treated more than one million patients, and the brand puts it simply, our clinics are living labs.
Over the years those clinics have built up skin records from more than 500,000 people, and what they show goes straight back into the formulas (Elle Korea, February 2026).
Worldpanel by Numerator counts Dr.G as the No.1 skincare brand in Korea*, measured on household penetration over five years, from 2020 to 2025. That figure is simply the number of Korean homes that keep the brand in the bathroom, which is why it is the hardest kind of ranking to buy your way into.
The shelf tells the same story. Dr.G has been ranked at the Olive Young Awards every year from 2019 to 2024, in the cream category and in sun care, which means Korean shoppers kept choosing the brand again long after the first wave of interest.
Dr.G organizes these four heroes as a three-step routine, Prepare, Soothe, Protect, set out step by step in its own guide.
